Episode 1: Oko Carter

Welcome to the first episode of The Esoteric Negro.  We are excited to share these episodes with you! With each guest, we are doing our best to explore the esoteric while also reflecting the current time we live in.  Our first guest is Oko Carter, a writer and friend living in Los Angeles, California.  Oko is a fixture in the L.A. art scene and he has an in-depth knowledge of Black literature.  In this episode we discuss "Brother to Brother", a collection of now classic literary work by Black, gay, male writers that tell the stories of how race and sexuality intersect.  "Brother to Brother" is currently out of print and its our intention to give some shine to the legacies of Joseph Beam and Essex Hemphill, who were instrumental in the creating, and the publishing, of "Brother to Brother".
